In the Zen school poetry has always been used as a means of expression of personal experience and as a way to communicate the understandings of Zen. Collected in this volume are poems from the Korean Zen tradition.
Wide Ocean (dharma name) has had a longstanding interest in Buddhist philosophy and metaphysics as well as other streams of Indian and East Asian philosophy. In his twenties he practiced Zen meditation in Zen halls in Korea and Japan under a number of different Zen masters. In 1996 on a trip to India he met his teacher, Vimala Thakar. Since then he has maintained an “open” approach to life and living.
