FROM THE AUTHOR

People have asked me how I came up with the idea of trees as eco-warriors designed to save mankind from global warming.
In short the idea was born 11 years ago when I visited the lovely Huntington Gardens in Los Angeles. The bonsais they had on display reminded me of little soldiers. I saw them springing to life at any minute and scampering away on those tiny, delicate roots.
I concocted the story as I drove home but as with many good intentions it took a back seat as life took over and two children, one divorce and a change of career later meant I was too distracted to start writing.
That was until my family asked me what I had done with the bonsai story that I had mentioned all those years ago. I felt guilty so I made the time to put these wonderful characters down on paper. That is why the book is dedicated to my family because without their encouragement, the story would still not exist in written form.
I hope you all enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Let’s hope that someday science can truly come up with such a miracle to help us get out of the environmental mess we find ourselves in today.
