PAKISTAN AS IT TRULY IS

John Warburton commenced his career as a Geologist in Aberdeen working on the UK North Sea oil rigs. Events in 1983 resulted in an assignment to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan where he travelled extensively. He returned to Pakistan for 3 years in 1999.

North Sea to North-West Frontier is a series of short true stories that paint a candid picture of ‘normal’ everyday life in Pakistan. Warburton’s accounts range from funny and fascinating to sad and confronting. Into the fabric of his own experiences Warburton weaves some precious insights into unique places, secretive events and strange traditions. He reveals some peculiar behaviors and idiosyncrasies that Pakistanis display in their own diverse country. Warburton exposes the extraordinary diversity and beauty of Pakistan from the sandy southern beaches to the lawless Tribal Areas of the North-West Frontier and ultimately to the Chinese border high in the Karakoram Mountains.

 

About the Author

John Warburton was born in Wigan, England on 29th September 1957. He graduated in 1979 from the University of Leeds with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Geological Sciences and completed his PhD in Structural Geology at the University of Wales, Swansea in 1982. He lives in Watsons Bay, Sydney Australia.

John continues to pursue his career as an executive in the international oil & gas industry. He is a Director of Imperial Oil & Gas Ltd, Executive Advisor to several petroleum companies, and is Founder & Director of international petroleum exploration consultancy Insight Exploration. He serves on the External Advisory Board for Petroleum Leeds, a centre for integrated petroleum engineering & geoscience at Leeds University.

John is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, an Alumni of Cranfield Business School UK and a Fellow of the Geological Society of London. John’s career has provided the opportunity for him to work on and travel extensively in the Middle East, Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, North & West Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, PNG, South- East Asia, China, Korea, Japan and of course Pakistan. John has published many internationally recognised technical articles on petroleum exploration in mountain belts and North Sea to North-West Frontier is his first novel.
